Background: The standard patch test is known as the most reliable test to identify and confirm causative agents of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Previous studies have shown that the prevalence of specific allergens varies by geographic area. The results of patch test in patients visiting our dermatology clinics with suspected ACD were prospectively investigated and compared with those reported in the literature of Iran.Method: We performed the European Standard Series patch test produced by Almiral Hermal GmbH, containing 28 allergens in a group of 100 patients (55 females and 45 males) with suspected ACD who were referred to Emam Reza and Ghaem Hospitals, Mashhad, in 2010-2011. The tests were read after 2 and 4 days.Result: Fifty-four percent of the patients had 1 or more positive reactions of which 65% were relevant to current or past dermatitis. Background and aim: Eczema is a common inflammatory skin disease. Although history and physical examination are important in diagnosis of allergen, because of extent of environmental allergens, those are not simply recognized. The objective of this study was to determine allergens in patients with contact or atopic dermatitis referred to Razi hospital.Materials and Methods: This descriptive, cross sectional study was performed on patients with contact or atopic dermatitis in 2003-2004 with European Standard Series patch test containing 24 allergens.Results: In this study 223 patients were tested with a mean age of 31 years (SD=12). The most common involved location was hand (59%). The most common allergens were nickel sulphate (23/2%), cobalt (11/4%) and thiuram (8/3%).Conclusion: Nickel sulphate was the most common contact allergen in this study.

Background: Eczema is one of the most widely spread inflammatory skin disorders contact dermatitis is an eczematous dermatitis that is produced as a result of contact with a substance in the environment. The substance can act as an irritant or allergen. Every country has allergen particular to itself. Objective: Determining the frequency of skin allergens in patients with contact dermatitis in Tehran. Patients and Methods: In this cross-sectional descriptive study, all the data about the patients with chronic contact dermatitis who were visited in a dermatology clinic in Tehran from the year 1993 to 2003 and patch tested with 23 allergens of European standard series (ESS) were analyzed. Results: In this study 222 patients were surveyed. The mean age of the patients was 33.5 years (SD=13.8). 66.5% of the patients were female. The most common site of involvement (49%) was their hands. The mean duration of the disease was 54 months (SD=62). Clinical diagnosis included: 59% allergic contact dermatitis, 24% irritant dermatitis, 10% atopic dermatitis, and 7% other types of dermatitis. 145 (65.3%) of them had at least one positive reaction. The most common allergens were: Nickle sulfate 22.6%, cobalt chloride 14.5%, and fragrance mix 13.6%. Conclusion: Nickel was the most common contact allergen among the patients surveyed.

Background: Various environmental factors can induce or exaggerate hand eczema. Objective: Evaluation of patch test results in hand eczema patients. Patients and Methods: In this descriptive study 100 patients with hand eczema referred to Loghman Hakim and Booali Hospital in Tehran underwent patch testing with 23 allergens obtained from Hermal company. Results: 240 positive reactions observed in 86 patients. The most common positive reactions were related to nickel sulfate (30 patients, 13.5%) and potassium dichromate (28 patients, 11.7%). In positive group 28 patients were male and 58 were female. In negative group 3 patients were male and 11 were female (P>0.05). The mean age was 31.7±11.9 years and 24.8±9.2 years for positive group and negative group, respectively (P0.05). Conclusion: Performing patch test, the allergens involved in hand eczema can be detected. Detecting type of allergens, patients will be able to avoid those materials, which can lead to improvement of disease.
